It is with deep regret that we have to announce the sudden passing of Andrew Dix. Andy was both President of British Precast from 2012 – 2016 and Chairman of the Precast Flooring Federation until May last year.

On 20th December 2016 NHBC produced Issue 2 of its document Guidance on the Use of Reinforcement to Concrete Toppings above Beam and Block Floors. The transition period will now run until 30th April 2017.

Our second SHAD (Safety and Health Awareness Day) of the year took place on 24th November at the National Motorcycle Museum, Solihull. The event was a huge success, with over 70 delegates from over 30 companies in attendance. Members travelled from as far afield as Ireland and Cornwall to take part in the day.

It is with sadness that we advise of the death of Howard Taylor: a champion for our industry for decades. His commitment continued for many years into his “retirement” with active involvement in codes and standards work, education activity and his own consultancy endeavours. For example, he was chairman of BSI Committee B/524 Head Code Precast Concrete Products, and his final meeting was due to be on December 6th.

There's just one month to go until our Safety Health and Awareness Day (SHAD), taking place at the National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull. Unlike our previous legal SHADs, this event will include a mock trial court scene with professional legal bodies staging a health and safety case.

Meeting Building Regulations is not enough to minimise fire risk. Regulations do not cover property safety nor construction stage. Construction stage fire safety is the remit of the HSE.
The HSE say: “All those making design and procurement decisions that significantly affect fire risk should consider and reduce the risk and consequences of fire during the construction phase through DESIGN.” (HSE emphasis).
To do this, choose non combustible materials: choose precast and masonry. Read more.
