INTRODUCTION |

|
The British
Precast Concrete Federation is committed to the industry's
health and safety record. The Concrete
Targets 2010 scheme
is an
industry-wide programme
to reduce reportable accidents and to improve health and safety
within the participating companies by following a co-ordinated
plan of initiatives.
The Concrete Targets 2010 scheme
has been designed to continue the success of the original Concrete
Targets scheme, which was launched in 2001 in response to the
government-led initiative “Revitalising
Health & Safety”. The scheme will run in parallel
with the annual British Precast Health & Safety
Award. |

STATEMENT OF SUPPORT

Lord Hunt of Kings Heath
Parliamentary Under Secretary (Lords)
Minister for Health and Safety
Department for Work and Pensions |
“I am pleased to write in support of the new Concrete Targets 2010
scheme aimed at reducing accidents and injuries in the precast concrete
products industry. In September 2005 I was asked to present the Concrete
Targets certificates to the members of British Precast who have been making
excellent progress since the start of the previous scheme. A combined reduction
of 45% in accident and lost time in four years to 2004 is a worthy achievement;
yet as the industry itself says, there remains much to do to improve the
sector’s record. I strongly urge all manufacturers of concrete products,
especially the small and medium sized producers, to now sign up to the
Concrete Targets scheme. As the Federation states – ‘Best Practice
in Precast is Good Business’” |

Robert Llewellyn will be hosting the 2010 awards dinner. The first presentation of the new scheme sees 16 companies striving to improve the health and safety of their workplaces and their staff.

“I am fully
in support of the Concrete Targets 2010 scheme. The
present scheme has already delivered a 45% reduction in reported
accidents with resultant cost savings for participants.
I urge all companies in the industry to get involved
and sign up.”
Dr Elizabeth
Gibby Director,
Injuries Reduction Programme,
Health and Safety Executive
“The evidence is now unequivocal. Amongst the targeted
schemes supported by HSE across the UK manufacturing sector,
Concrete Targets scheme adherents are showing individually
and collectively some of the best accident reduction figures
and consequent savings in terms of less accidents, less visits
from HSE, more opportunity to cut insurance costs, less production
disruption, more efficient production, less lost time days
and improved employee engagement in business needs. It is
to me a no-brainer. I believe the gains that can be made
from joining schemes such as Concrete Targets 2010 in terms
of better business performance should be taken up by every
company in the concrete industry”

Brookes,
