Health and Safety Awards

The ‘Concrete Targets 2010’ scheme for accident reduction, launched phase 2 of the scheme in 2005 The original scheme was launched in 2001 in response to the Government’s ‘Revitalising Health and Safety’ initiative) continues to be actively promoted with our annual Awards. The scheme is highly regarded by the HSE as a benchmark programme and has been featured at HSE conferences where it’s success has been recognised. The current phase of the scheme is in it’s final year and a working group is already developing the next phase.

The British Precast Annual Health and Safety Award for 2004/5, based on the topic of ‘Working at Heights ’ was awarded at the end of 2005, with the winning entry being submitted by Hanson Building Products, Derby Works.

The HSE developed guidance sheets based on our 1999/2000 Award Scheme on the subject of ‘Manual Handling’, and these are to be published on the HSE website. It is now planned to develop similar guidance sheets based on successive years’ Award Scheme entries.
