MPA Health & Safety Awards and Conference: In Review

20 Nov 2019

The MPA Health and Safety Conference & Awards was a very well attended event with over 250 delegates from the wider industry. The key theme for the day was Clearer, Simpler, Smarter.

In opening, Martin Riley, MPA Chairman and Senior Vice President Tarmac, made reference to industry fatalities and incidents in the last two years which will see MPA link future efforts to eliminate them and improve overall performance by using 'The Fatal 6' as strategic drivers underpinned by hard targets and both lagging and leading indicators. There was an interactive panel discussion about Isolation and converting the message into practice which was made up of representatives from CEMEX, Tarmac and Brett. As the event continued, there was further panel discussions on Zero Harm and a moving presentation from Steve Rae, Executive Director, Step Change in Safety, talked about 'Clearer, Simpler, Smarter’, taking lessons from Piper Alpha.

The event concluded with the MPA Health & Safety Awards showcase. Congratulations to all the award winners and runners up this year. MPA looks forward to receiving new award submissions in February 2020.
